Desired Outcomes
Objectives:
Demonstrate your learning about complex genetics
Explain the structure and function of DNA
Essential Questions: How do we use technology to see the world?
What is DNA? How does it give us our traits?
Assessment of Learning
Daily warm-ups; small- and whole-group discussion; monitoring students’ progress during independent work; completion of daily assignments; summative quiz.
Arts/Technology Integration Strategy
Videos and Powerpoint slides will be shown. Students will create models of organisms to demonstrate understanding of Mendelian and complex genetics.
Learning Plan for the Week
Hook: How does DNA actually give us our traits?
Direct Instruction: The teacher will give daily instructions for activities as well as direct instruction on the topic of DNA structure.
Guided Practice: The teacher will guide students through the beginning of all activities and begin assignments as a class. Students will work in groups to practice concepts and review for the test.
Independent Practice: Students will complete individual assignments to reinforce concepts and take an individual assessment.
Closure: Students will complete a study guide and test on complex genetics before being introduced to the concept of DNA structure.
Materials/Resources: Handouts will be provided for students; students should have notebooks, folders/binders, and something to write with every day. They should keep their textbooks at home for a resource.
