Week of Sept. 30 – Oct. 4
Desired Outcomes
Objectives:
Demonstrate active listening skills and how to ask a response question
Determine how to present oneself to someone from another country
Essential Questions: How is change reflected through art and technology?
How do we communicate respectfully?
How do we ask good questions?
What do we tell other people about ourselves to show who we are?
Assessment of Learning
Small- and whole-group discussion; monitoring students’ progress during activities; plenary questioning at the end of class/other exit tickets; in-class assignments demonstrating learning; creation of a blog and comments/response to forums and others’ blogs.
Arts/Technology Integration Strategy
Videos and Powerpoint slides will be shown. Students will act out different conversations. The Face to Faith website will be integrated on a regular basis. Preparation for video conferencing will hopefully begin this week.
Learning Plan for the Week
Hook: How do we show who we are to another school?
Direct Instruction: Teacher will provide directions for each activity and model how to do each one. Instruction will be provided on “ASKeR” and other guidelines.
Guided Practice: Students will work in pairs to practice dialogue and listening skills and brainstorm ideas about questions to ask.
Independent Practice: Students will individually complete exit tickets about what they learned and complete in-class assignments during various activities. They will post in the online forums.
Closure: Students will begin to decide what sort of presentation to make to represent Ellington to another school.
Materials/Resources: Handouts will be provided. Students with computers or other devices that can access the Internet should bring them to class. Students without will be permitted to use the teacher’s device or computer lab time may be scheduled when necessary.

Kids from other countries will see this, so consider talking about what it's like going to school here, living in Michigan, being an American teenager..
