Week of Oct. 28 – 31
Desired Outcomes
Objectives:
Define the terms compassion and suffering
Describe, compare and contrast the meanings of these terms as represented in different religions and cultures
Essential Questions: How is change reflected through art and technology?
What is suffering? What is compassion?
Assessment of Learning
Small- and whole-group discussion; monitoring students’ progress during activities; plenary questioning at the end of class/other exit tickets; in-class assignments demonstrating learning; end of marking period assessment.
Arts/Technology Integration Strategy
Videos and Powerpoint slides will be shown. Students will act out different activities. Internet research and the Face to Faith website will be integrated when possible.
Learning Plan for the Week
Hook: How would you feel if you saw people in these situations? What would you want to do?
Direct Instruction: Teacher will guide students through activities, model when appropriate, and lead discussion of suffering, compassion, and
Guided Practice: The teacher will assist students with research and model/start off activities (ex: Where in the World?)
Independent Practice: Students will individually complete exit tickets about what they learned and complete in-class assignments during various activities. Students will work independently to research the effects of globalization. They will post in the online forums if partner school communication has been set up.
Closure: Students will complete an assessment and watch a film to reflect on what they have learned in this class so far and how to apply it to their lives.
Materials/Resources: Handouts will be provided. Students with computers or other devices that can access the Internet should bring them to class. For students without devices, computer lab time may be scheduled when necessary.
