Desired Outcomes
Objectives:
(activity) Evaluate why each college or career is well-suited to you and present
Evaluate readiness for ACT math, reading, writing, and science sections (ongoing)
Analyze quality of college admissions essays
Essential Questions: How is change reflected through art?
What are you going to do when you grow up? How are you going to get there?
Assessment of Learning
Small- and whole-group discussion; practice tests; monitoring students’ progress during project; college and career project.
Arts/Technology Integration Strategy
Videos and Powerpoint slides will be shown. Students create posters highlighting their college and career choices for the research project.
Learning Plan for the Week
Hook: What do you want to do when you’re older and what do you need to do now to get there?
Direct Instruction: The teacher will provide instructions on ACT tests and essay-writing skills and provide guidelines on college & career presentation.
Guided Practice: Teacher will model how to answer questions and construct essay.
Independent Practice: Students will individually take practice tests, continue an ACT writing sample, and complete their reports (if not already done) and present to the class about their college and career choices.
Closure: Hand in report and present posters to class. Reflection: What do you need to do now (as a 9th grader) to follow through on these plans?
Materials/Resources: Handouts will be provided. Teacher will provide some resources on colleges they may research. Students with computers or other devices that can access the Internet should bring them for use during scheduled research times. Students must have notebooks, something to write with, and their folder/binder for this class EVERY DAY.

(30) Analysis of college admissions essays
(20) A look at the common prompts – which one could you do well?
Homework: Select one of the essay prompts and write a short response to it, keeping the guidelines in mind.
