Week of May 12th -16th
Desired Outcomes
Objectives:
Analyze the artworks of a religion as they relate to that religion’s teachings and values
Use technology for research and creation of a presentation
Essential Questions: How do art and technology influence culture?
What is art? How is it viewed differently by different people? What is “art” in different cultures and different religions?
Assessment of Learning
Small- and whole-group discussion; monitoring students’ progress during project; creation of art project.
Arts/Technology Integration Strategy
Videos and Powerpoint slides will be shown. Students will spend the entire week acting as curators of an exhibit on the art of a particular religion. They will use the internet to research the religion and its art forms and create a presentation through Google Docs to be shared with the class next week. They will analyze images of that religion’s art and explain how it reflects that religion or culture.
Learning Plan for the Week
Hook: What is religious art? Which of these images have you seen? Which have you not?
Direct Instruction: Teacher will guide students through the beginning of the assignment activities, model when appropriate, lead discussions, and share images and videos with the students to generate discussion.
Guided Practice: The teacher will lead discussions of which images students are familiar with and how art is different in different cultures.
Independent Practice: Students will work individually or in groups to perform research and create a presentation about art in their chosen religious discipline.
Closure: Students will create a presentation analyzing the art of a particular religion. Presentations to the class will take place the following week.
Materials/Resources: Handouts will be provided. Students should bring their Chromebooks to class every day and with computers or other devices that can access the Internet should bring them to class. For students without devices, computer lab time will be scheduled.
