Desired Outcomes
Objectives:
Analyze and argue for or against the legitimacy of limits on freedoms
Compare and contrast freedom of belief and freedom of speech
Essential Questions: How do art and technology influence culture?
What rights do all people have? Should people be free to express themselves how they want?
Assessment of Learning
Small- and whole-group discussion; individual warm-ups, assignments and exit tickets; case studies.
Arts/Technology Integration Strategy
Videos and Powerpoint slides will be shown. Students will use individual technologies to explore issues and create blogs on the Face to Faith website.
Learning Plan for the Week
Hook: Should you be able to do and say what you want?
Direct Instruction: Teacher will lead students through warm-ups and directions.
Guided Practice: The teacher will lead discussions of rights and freedoms. Students will have small- group and whole-group discussions about different issues.
Independent Practice: Students will work individually to complete warm-ups, assignments, exit tickets, and blogs.
Closure: Students will discuss the difference between freedom of belief and freedom of speech and will write a personal statement about which they feel to be more important and why.
Materials/Resources: Handouts will be provided. Students should bring something to write with every day, as well as their Chromebooks.
